Dr Martens NY Times Article
January 2011
Dr Martens is written up in this excellent article by NY Times writer Jon Caramanica.
Here is an excerpt:
"You can learn a lot about a store by its mirrors. The ones here were tiny, lest you see too much of yourself. I took a quick glance and retreated. At least the shoes were easy to get off.
At the new Dr. Martens store, the mirrors are gargantuan, family-size, arrogant. It’s hard to sneak a glance. They demand long meaningful stares.
Here, too, the basic template has gone unchanged for decades. It’s a boot — some high, some really high, some still a shoe but with all the mobility of a boot. They make your feet look wide, but also strong and glued to the ground. The yellow stitch at the sole remains jarring, even after all these years."
